Heavy rains forecast, rain emergency declared in Sindh

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has said that a rain emergency has been declared in Sindh in view of the forecast of heavy rains by the Meteorological Department.

Local bodies, Public Health Engineering Department, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Karachi Water Board and WASA have been directed to remain alert. 

Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the leave of the staff of the concerned departments has been canceled and they have been posted in the field.

The provincial minister for local government warned that no officer or staff would leave the headquarters without permission. Strict action will be taken against negligent officers and staff. Sensitive rainwater drainage points and checkpoints should be monitored. 

He directed the MD Solid Waste Management to remove the garbage from the drains and transfer it to the landfill sites in a proper manner. Close the manholes of Karachi Water Board, WASA and other concerned departments to keep the citizens safe in the rains. Take down signboards from cities and take steps to keep them safe.

He said that alternative arrangements for electricity should be ensured at the pumping stations so that there would be no obstruction in drainage. Sprays should be packed for effective control of malaria and dengue and all necessary machinery, equipment and vehicles should be kept ready. The provincial minister said that protection of life and property of citizens is our priority.
