Mass graves of Joseph Stalin’s era have been discovered in Ukraine.
Remains of 5,000 to 8,000 people have been found in 29 mass graves in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa. The mass graves date back to the 1930s. Which were discovered during excavations for the expansion of the airport.
Thousands of Ukrainians were killed under Joseph Stalin.
The head of Ukraine’s National Memory Institute says those found in mass graves may have been killed by the Soviet Secret Police unit in the late 1930s.
He said it was not possible to identify the dead because Russia had all the records.
According to a Ukrainian website, between 1938 and 1941, Soviet secret police executed 8,600 people in Odessa.
