The United States has also suspended its air operations in Kabul over the current situation in Afghanistan.

A Pentagon spokesman said all military and civilian flights to Kabul had been suspended.

The Pentagon says US troops are currently providing security at Kabul airport.

The spokesman said the US move resulted in the deaths of two gunmen.
